The BVI Rugby U18s 7s side has proudly returned from their first international tournament, with 12 of our finest young players representing the territory at the Tropical 7s Tournament in Tampa over the Easter weekend.
We could not be prouder of our young athletes as they stepped up to compete in one of the largest tournaments of its kind in the world.
With over 200 teams competing from across North, South, and Central America, as well as Europe—and with sides travelling from as far as South Africa and the Pacific Islands—the competition was both fierce and inspiring.
Across the tournament, the team showed tremendous growth, learning valuable lessons with every match. Their progress was clear, with each game showing marked improvement on the last.
This development did not go unnoticed as the Team were approached by a number of US College scouts, looking for future talent.
The Team Manager summed up the tour best:
"What a tournament it’s been. The lads gave absolutely everything in our final game. Despite a few missed chances and an unfortunate disallowed try, it was a match that could have gone either way.
More importantly, it’s been an incredible experience. We’ve made great friendships and are already looking forward to coming back next year.
The team’s development over the past two days has been outstanding. Competing against some of the best teams in North America has shown us exactly where we need to be—and how far we’ve come.
A huge thank you to Coach James for his dedication and for preparing the team to compete at this level. Thanks as well to Coach Carty for his commitment and for guiding and mentoring the squad throughout."
Finally, sincere appreciation to the BVI Olympic Committee, Serec, Blue Sky, Castaways, and Road Town Fast Ferry for sponsoring this tour. We also must thank our Main Sponsor EMCs and our Club Sponsors Appleby, SHRM, and DLT for their continued support.
We could not have done this without you!!
